Installing prescription lenses on Google Glass

Replacing the non-prescription lenses with prescription lenses requires to be done by an eyecare provider. Preferred Providers have been specially trained on Glass and are well versed on the specifics of fulfilling prescription frame lenses.

We recommend discussing your options with us to see if your prescription is compatible with Glass frames. Google recommends lenses cut within +4 to -4 with astigmatism up to 2D. Check with us for more information if you're unsure we can fit your Glass properly.

When visiting our office, take Glass with you. We will use your existing prescription or perform a new eye test. The frames (not Glass) will be sent and new lenses will be cut.

Are all prescription lenses supported?

Single vision reading prescriptions are not currently recommended. Because of the curvature of the frames, we recommend cutting lenses for prescriptions within -4 and +4 with astigmatism up to 2D.

Should kids use Glass?

Glass is designed for average adult heads and faces. We do not encourage children to use Glass. In addition, Glass requires a Google Account, which has its own age restrictions.

What is the working distance of Glass?

The optical display is set nominally at 3.5 meters (~11.5 feet).

How does accommodation affect the ability to use Glass?

The working distance of greater than 3.5 meters means accommodation is minimally engaged. Distance correction is used to view the optical display.
